March 15 2015 CDC Meeting

Attendees

  • yar, Diana, Julio, Amgo, Mark

==Agenda

  • Check-in
  • Appreciation
  • Burnout discussion: capacity to engage / self-care
  • Oakland Power Projects report
  • Interaction with other radical groups

Check-in / Appreciation

  • Amgo: close to overwhelemed, yet appreciative, empathy broadened
  • Mark: full from eating pizza with teenagers at a fundraiser
  • Diana: thinking about own role
  • Julio: cooking, excited about the Oakland Power Projects
  • yar: worried about compromises that the Omni makes to survive - recuperation, extend/embrace/extinguish. staying away out of burnout but still engaging in this conversation. makes me feel guilty & vulnerable to participate that way since i'm not doing a lot of the work anymore

Appreciation

  • Amgo: L has been putting a lot of energy, time, and skills into survey for visioning meeting; two men attacked the proccess, etc. multiple people were bummed out
  • Bring in conversation with Syurvey analysis incident into Conflict meeting
  • Julio: thanks Rachel, Jenny, and Niki helped set me up on bookings and commons work... we need to find more people to do this work (going to a meeting on Saturday could be a deterrent)

Burn-out

  • Regenerative experiences to alleviate burnout
  • Need to disperse information and sharing of responsibility
  • Radical act of self-care, people should be able to take a sebatical
  • Work of the Omni should be to radicalize those are not yet radical
  • People need to be healthy
  • Visioning needs to happen
  • We need to make sure there is a radical ideological anchor

Previous discussion from March 8

  • Expectations for this project not sustainable. drives people away.
  • Feels guilt...need to be real about capacities for handling conflict. Overcommitment is destructive.
  • Receiving lots of aggression given this subject and space - unhealthy.
  • how much urgency is really required? BE very realistic and define capacities to engage / reasonable timeframe.
  • emotional labor very feminized. Lots of the guilt tied into that.
  • Potential monthly appreciative meeting.
  • Also active outreach to expand network during delegates meeting.
    • Ways to harness funding from academic research perspective
  • ACTION: Talk about burn out first next time - share appreciations first thing next meeting. Start with a check-in.
  • NOTE: Next week no discussion on Conflict - that is a separate meeting.
