Purpose

    • Fighting burnout
    • Community building
    • Restoration/relaxation
    • Onboarding existing members to Omni-work
    • Welcoming new people with the expectation of getting involved with some Omni-work?* Date and Time?
  • Niki: Should we invite folks from the community?
  • Matt: Yes, everytime we've gotten in touch with folks it turned out good, with 90% of the people.
  • Niki: Perhaps I could give folks my information in the case that they may want to do some music or something.
  • Niki will do this, and if others would like to do it they can contact her.

Date/time

    • Since DK was going to host First Friday Art Auction on May 1, is this a good date? is it too soon?
    • Is any date in April too soon?
    • Is later in May or June too late?
  • When is Kevin's music party?
  • Julio: Fred Hampton Jr. is having an event, part of Anti Police Terror Project, Hard to pindown the day and tentatively this is May 3rd.
  • Matt: We can clean up and stuff but we need to check in with Laura about all of this in light of building stuff.
  • Sarah: Seems like we need to change our CDC Omni date, steering clear of the first two weeks of May.
  • Matt: Hopefully we can use this time to celebrate the building projects that we've done up to that time.
  • 24th Looks Great! 3-7pm
  • Matt: We should let the yoga and other folks know, Circle Time too. Matt will contact Noemie.

Naming

  • Fun Fun Fun Omni (Fun)

What spaces?

Desire to use whole building

  • Ballroom
  • Disco room
  • Upstairs den
  • Basement
  • Sudo/CCL

Activities

    • Food
    • Yoga (maybe best before food, rather than after?)
    • Art?
    • Music
    • Indoctrination?
    • Welcoming?
  • Sarah: Could perhaps lead a shake session, to shake for an hour.
  • Dusty: Would like to create something in order to create space to "convoke" or explore the radical imagination. A fun activity, perhaps "birds of a feather" or something like that.
  • Sarah: We could make a space for folks to write thank you cards, and Sarah is going to contact with MPM in order to have a template of sorts.
  • Julio: Perhaps we could do a community building circle informed by restorative justice practices that we're learning about. Perhaps Max or someone from Phat Beets could do it. Doesn't require a lot of prep and such.
  • Niki: Think it's important, Been thinking about the performativity of community in context of actual practice...don't want to just throw the word community around and thinks that the resotrative circle would be a good start.
  • Julio: Perhaps this relates to the conflict group, like building trust and such and I don't know if this needs to be... I can talk with Max.
  • Dusty: I would like to have a space or intention that we discuss "commons" versus "public" and how to get folks onboard with the idea of this being a participatory space.
  • Matt: The way I think about this and explain it to people is just to say, "This is an all volunteer project" and that this is a project which has to be self-reproducing.
  • Troy: Discusses enclosure.
  • Niki: I can get in touch with Patrick to discuss comic book making and zine making and such. Also, I would be able to lead this if he doesn't or can't.
  • Sarah: A community circle could be focused around the topic of commons, and such. To bring people together about why we're doing with the commons and how we can strive toward that goal.
  • Julio: We could use the community circle to do this, and Dusty's imagination piece.
  • Matt: This could be a good place to push myself and Laura, who have been reading and discussing the commons for sometime, and we could launch a class about the commons through the circle approach.
  • Julio: I think the circle is a long term vision, too, to have meetings like that and such.
  • Matt: Perhaps we can have the fermentation folks to do a batch for the party.

Roles

  • Welcomers
  • Yoga
  • Food coordinator?
  • Activities coordinator?

Other notes

Thoughts from Rachel: I think community building should be about making connections, new and old, to grow the internal community,

and inviting in new people who are just interested in the space, and not attending a specific event.

This community building party be an opportune event to attend and get to know people And cross-pollinate between awesome people already involved, or only somewhat involved. If it is to feel like a community, it should have the omni name on it

Thoughts from Amgo If we could gracefully pull an "actually, you are not a customer, you are a collaborator" without being a bummer that'd be cool. [in regards to piggibacking on Art Auction which is not going to happen]

I just want to put it out there that the whole burnout discussion is about prioritizing our self-care needs, both as individuals and as a group. I feel a somewhat parallel urge in myself to go go go because I want to help ensure awesome stuff happens as I feel as a cell within the body of Omni. "We can't say no to an amazing and important event in our VERY OWN OMNI! We can have a morale-building party any time, but this event can only happen now!" feels a lot like "I can meditate/exercise/hang with my sweetie/have some quiet time/clean my house, go to the woods etc. any time, but this job application, email correspondence, budget form, direct action, meeting meeting meeting etc. can only happen NOW"

On Yoga Amgo: what about a yoga class as part of our omni self care day? (see what I did; I'm turning it into a whole DAY) Rachel: Yoga class on Self-Care/Revitalization Day seems integral now that you mention it. I'm 100% down! ~I'd recommend Jes, bc she teaches Restorative and that's what we're looking for :)

I'm happy to be the second choice, but I think asking the yoga teacher who is the least omni-busy might make the most sense for this initiative.

Every single teacher is awesome and pleasant to experience, I'm not sure who is the least omni busy- def not Noemie or me; maybe Sara L? or Melissa? (she's a guest teacher, does wkshops, and is helping with booking)
