Joe

  • Why are you at omni? to create a commons for the victims of capitalism, make a better world, and create a community
  • what do you do here? I do what needs to be done.
    • robb: these days? nothing!
    • joe: i'm painting my house. try to keep my ear to the ground, try to get us funding, building projects, use the kitchen to cook, hope to do more than just using it ourselves. get it licensed one day. i actually once knew david keenan! i can be grandfathered in right?
  • what struggles do you face?
    • old age, racism, oppression of the poor. not being sufficiently against rape culture. being hard of hearing.
  • what do you need from us?
    • nothing
  • what do you have to offer?
    • wisdom, construction skills, communication training, group dynamics, love if you want it
  • what are you grateful for?
    • people that struggle against oppression and the anti-life instinct. my partner, my family. the bay area radical community.
  • do you consent to being in pictures?
    • yes
  • will you follow & share with omni on social media?
    • no
  • do you want yar to add you to any mailing lists?
    • long tangent about mailing lists
  • what's the anti-life philosophy?
    • placing money over people and community. loss of connection & respect for nature.
  • yar consents.
  • in the future we want a pondering period, but right now we need to scale up quickly
  • joe: let's say someone comes in the door during the week, wants to know how to fit in. we say come to the next building bloc meeting?
  • yar: yes

laura

  • laura
  • why are you at omni? ridiculous question, idk. at a meeting. trying to change the wordl by building community
  • what do you do here? commons, fundraising wg. becoming omni
  • what struggles do you face? too busy, need a boyfriend lol
  • what do you need from us? need is relative... to be a part of a community working to end oppression! if it wasn't a supportive community i wouldn't wanna be a part of it
  • what do you have to offer? time. basic administrative & facilitation skills. financial contributions.
  • what are you grateful for? all the work & effort everyone puts in at the omni. where i am in my life, really happy in general.
  • consents to photographs but prefers not to be photographed from the side
  • social media? YES!
  • no more mailing lists!
  • joe: do you have any preformed opinions about the omni that'd keep you from being a loyal & good serving member?
    • laura's opinions are very post-formed by now
  • joe & yar consent!

josh

  • doesn't want to be an official member right now but wants to know any guidelines
  • joe: who vouches for you when you come in the morning? what if none of us are here?
  • josh hasn't run into this yet
  • joe: sort of in between status
  • might join liberated lens tomorrow

automatic abstension

  • yar proposes that if somebody doesn't come to a meeting, they automatically abstain unless they say otherwise
  • joe phrases that as "they can vote in abstentia"
  • yar doesn't like the V word. joe says "let's not go back to the 80s, the word is fine. opine? weigh in?"
  • yar: but i worry about culture creep
  • joe: yeah gotta be eternally vigilant explaining consensus
  • final proposal: people can vote without going to a meeting, but if they don't come and don't say anything, they abstain
  • joe & yar consent. libbie & daron already individually volunteered to this rule.

name

  • joe doesn't like the name - confused with building wg. wants to think of a better more inviting name. but no ideas right now
  • yar thinks maybe building wg shoudl change its name :)
  • but it's the "bloc" part. joe laid a lot of cement, brings memories of sweating in the sun
  • where were you when chris hedges wrote "the cancer of occupy"? huge brouhaha

next meeting

  • each of us will try to bring at least 4 more people
  • Saturday 2pm

decisions we made at this meeting!

  • joe & laura are now members!
  • people can vote without going to a meeting, but if they don't come and don't say anything, they abstain
  • our next meeting will be Saturday November 7 at 2pm sharp!
