Working Group Report-Backs

Building & permits

Meetings: Mondays at 8pm

  • Building has begun making a design for the kitchen remodel but has had difficulty getting together. We hope to agree on a kitchen layout in a couple of weeks

and get them drawn by architect who did sound wall. We should meet Monday at either 6 or 8pm. Will discuss on line @ Building WG.

  • Patrik - 2 weeks ago did a fairly thorough walkthrough of the basement - lots of water coming into the small room downstairs (at least 2Gal/d) - and obvious routes for rodents into the kitchen through big holes in heater room
  • Robb: Yesterday jenny and I patched holes and cleaned the upstairs kitchenette/closet
    • Jenny - also we have LED chandelier bulbs incoming tonight! going to consult with ccl re: led flourescent replacements
  • This group needs help; https://omnicommons.org/lists/listinfo/building

Commons

Meetings: Second and Fourth Thursdays at 6pm

  • Jenny - Just purchashed some Dr Bronners cleaning supplies to help address folks with chemical sensitivities
  • Lynn - The amount of event requests are just crazy, we're getting so many. That's the good news. Bad News: we just need more people involved to help out during the events. Setting up and/or direct management
  • Robb - temp check on incentivizing commons / booking bottomliners. lots of work and responsibility. perhaps omni could put aside some small percentage of event income toward collectives they're a member of
    • patrik - had same suggestion - though would give to the people doing the work rather than their collective
      • robb - a lot of nights we really only need a single point person
        • ken - all of these are paid events? some gratis?
          • lynn: a few are gratis or way-below
      • robb: could have maybe a tea and coffee cart that whoever operates it can keep the income
  • lynn: accessible bathroom looks terrible. at least cover the urinals, remove the screen sink?
    • patrik: only thing is to get it fully-permitted we'd need to open the wall up again
      • fiberglass reinforced panels in front of it
      • sidelined to building meeting next week
  • informal poll - everyone seems generally in consenso about incentivizing point people for events
  • robb will draft a proposal
  • This group needs help:

Communications

  • Comms WG meets every 1st & 3rd Sundays at 5pm
  • Next meeting is this Sunday at 5pm
  • Julian: newsletter was sent out last week! check it out -
    • juul> hey yeah i read it, it's great! Can we post them as updates to patreon as well? Our patreon has 0 updates and these would be good ones. I can do it if i get the password.
  • jenny: we do have a blog and there's zero posts on that, we could use help there
    • juul> we should cross post the omni commoner there too!
      • ++ (and we do have i think 3 updates? posted the latest newsletter

Finance

Meetings: Currently conjoined with Fundraising (Mondays at 6pm)

  • Emphacize the massive amount of income from commons ($9K since January 1st!)
  • Paying back debts
  • Still kinda running in the red until july
  • Had to give GCS/YES

Fundraising

Meetings: Mondays at 6:00pm

  • Mary Ann - Laura had written a grant proposal to the Peace Development Fund - today we got the rejection letter :(
  • Mary Ann - Angie met with Laura sometime before Christmas re: fiscally sponsoring her project - got lost in a combo of buying the building, people being sick/traveling, holidays etc.
    • proposal due on the 31st - need the signed grant agreement

Collectives' Report-Backs

  • BAPS - Steve & Julian were at the ROAR conf this past weekend, passed out info about a new class - Practical Research Toward Abolishing Racialization - got approx. 30 folks signed up interested in the class. Having signup sheets at popular events works!
  • Sudo: Another 5 mins of Fame coming up next month (First Wednesdays in the ballroom), the first one went really well. Plans to put flooring, and talking about shutting the space down for a month to cleaning
  • ABDC: Doing alright, Dasha holding it down. Kazoo just returned today from S America. Still intending to move forward with proposal to occupy the front hall but need to make some modifications and resend for the next meeting. Dasha organizing an event for a transgender friend coming up in a few weeks re: transgender prejudice. Deadline for SF studio is now end of year, not July - so a little more time in SF.
  • CCL: Big members meeting next Tues, electing president / secretary / treasurer and so far only one candidate - could use someone with experience running a nonprofit, doing the paperwork etc. Had a kickoff event for a biodigester competition, hackathon at end of month, will have 4 home-built biodigesters sitting in CCL (unless they get too stinky).
  • GWS - involved in the planning of the international womens strike. March was great! now momentum toward planning for May Day Women's Bloc. Next meeting is next Tuesday.
    • Robb suggests connecting to Gerald. Lori sez she thought Joe was doing some organizing with the Unions
  • Chaipas - Proposal to develop a national parallel govt. Comvbining with the national indigenous congress. Going to be interesting to see what social movements in Mexico participate in it. Delegation heading to Chiapas and will be there for a week, also sending a videographer to film and do some interviews... hoping to do a reportback shortly afterwards. Meeting again Saturday morning to try to reschedule the musical benefit / dance that was cancelled after the Ghostship fire. Trying to reschedule that, need to raise funds. Also organizing a class that examines the Zapatismos over the years
    • Steve: Are they going to draw from the states that formally exist, or redraw/redefine regions?
      • Mary Ann - different groups / tribes / nations refer to themselves in different ways and have different territories. Initially it will be the indigenous peoples as first members.. but there is a provision that implies alliances with social movements eg the teachers. What it's about really is land and territory, and what they do with land they control. Emphasize on defense - from mining, drug traffickers, pipelines etc... something I can relate to as a longtime resident of Temescal. Urban vs rural dispossession.
  • FNB (jenny subbing in) could use more volunteers right now -
    • joe: Thanks Jenny. and we has a very urgent need for a kitchen to cook on Sundays. It is hard to find such since all the churches use theirs on Sun. Let Me or Helen know of any leads. To be \clear any fairly good kitchen is usable - private home -coop. anything.

CCL Proposal

Discussion

  • BAPS introduces a counterproposal
  • Patrik gives more background on history
