attendees

Laura, Mary Ann, Jenny, Marcus (late)

updates

  • Jenny sent in the CAST update. We will know in November or December. DK has been meeting with them regularly.
  • PGE bill back up to $1660 this month.
  • Still waiting on David to open permit for ADA bathroom. Issue with the number of fixtures in the building overall.
  • Jenny meeting with Needa Bee from the Village on Wednesday at Noon. Have been given 1 parcel of land to build a homeless living area. Jenny will be discussing if we can support them through fiscal spoonsorship or other help.
  • Next kitchen fundraising meeting at 6pm on Wednesday. Video underway. Launch party for crowdfunding campaign.
    • Mary Ann re: Los Nadies - first offered to play for free, invited them to CompArte, took 2 months to get the okay...
    • what about a really good DJ?
    • reach out to group that wanted to put on a music fundraiser
    • mebbe food from FNB and/or PB, show video, music (karaoke?!)
  • laura: looking into grants for kitchen or some collaborative inter-collective project requiring a kitchen - some of them were trickier than expected (audited financials, won't accept unsolicited, etc)
      • mary ann: event unsolicited, possible to call and just talk to someone, see if they'll accept an LOI
    • laura: harry chapin foundation - $10K - seems most possible - put phat beets as lead applicant
  • Laura: Taxes started. Needs to have a work day with Jenny. Will do after the 16th of October.

solicit info / statistics from collectives for fundraising purposes

  • jenny: Maybe we could do this if we divide up the groups
    • mary ann: chiapas & gws
    • jenny: sudo, patrik/maureen from ccl, liz from liblens, helen from fnb, dk from diy, marc/patrik: rvc
    • Laura: almaz - gcea, joel/emji - til, BAPS, Phat Beets
    • marcus - abdc
  • Info we will ask for:

potential cafe

  • Laura: Potential cafe members presented their ideas at the delegates meeting and solicited feedback.
    • Mary Ann: How to deal with groups selling food or coffee to raise money for events. Chiapas needs to talk directly with them if/when they become a member - how do 2 chiapas support groups coexist? Not Omni concern really, but something that needs to be discussed. They're not just opening a family profit-run business, but a cooperative that buys their coffee from the Zapatistas and raises money for those Zap. coops. Issue is they're trying to draw from the same communities that we are
      • Laura: Didn't say they'd be raising money for those communities. Relationship would be more of building an alternative economic model with them.
      • jenny: seemed primarily interested in ethical and sustainable lines of production and supporting sustainable livelihoods
    • Jenny: Current team of 2 couples with young children. Could create internal issues over how much labor each person is doing as well as overall having enough time. Perhaps could include one coop member who is an experienced Omni person who has time and can help them understand the issues with being the front door of the Omni.
    • Laura: I spoke with Gerald today. He was concerned about giving them a long term lease at first. They requested a minimum of ~5 years. Suggested lower rent initially instead. I am less concerned about a long lease if we are clear about the terms. We really need the money from a full rent.
      • Mary Ann: they have a base to start from - they've built up quite a clientele at their current space. imagine the clientele from the new condo...
        • jenny: should add req's if we do a long-term lease re: fiscal transparency, modifying according to delegate consensus, etc... agua viva has already done a lot of the legwork re: buildout, eg; initial health inspection, zoning clearance, architectural drawings, quotes from plumbing, architect, & electrical contractors, sketches for the counter, etc that have been shared with sin fronteras
    • We should run lease by Jesse before signing.

proposals

proposal: event supply budget

via Liz 10/8:

  • ~$650 toward reusable dinnerware for collective events with food
  • Laura; Thing about melamine is that it's toxic over time, with deterioration
  • Laura: Can also rent dinnerware from a party rental place - would look into that for the 22nd event
    • Longer-term, look into Syracuse China dinnerware, include in grant
  • Mary Ann: Have some dinnerware ... also have Corelle dinnerware (made by Corning, doesn't chip but will break if dropped)
  • Laura: suggests looking into quotes from Corelle for bulk plates

proposal: fiscally sponsor guatemalan school recovery campaign

via Jenny 10/9:

  • I received a message from Daniel last night requesting urgent support re: routing tax-deductible donations through the omni for this campaign: https://www.youcaring.com/escuelaoficialbarriochajsaquil-974517
  • Jenny sent a message to Jesse earlier today asking what our best process would be to support. let's see what he has to say - in general omni delegates would most likely support
