Introductions

Introduce yourself: Name; Preferred Pronoun; Affiliation; any brief announcements; say whether you're a delegate; let us know about any access needs you have†

  • WHY DO WE ASK PRONOUNS? To make space for people who are trans, nonbinary, gender noncomforming or otherwise vulnerable to being misgendered. It's not an invitation to make jokes or trivialize the idea of pronouns. If you are fine with the gender and pronouns society generally assigns to you, please just say what they are without fanfare or embellishment. Conversely, please don't pressure anybody to give their pronouns, as that can harm trans people who are closeted or questioning. The point is to prompt and normalize asking, but not to mandate or enforce. Thank you! <3 Yar

Proposals

FYE Proposal

  • Laura: Can you afford first/last/security?
    • Asaad: At the moment no, by the end of the 3-month trial period
  • Laura: market events won't work because we'd lose property tax exemption
    • niki wonders how anarchist bookfair was allowed
    • maryanne: depends what money is for. private benefit vs charity. something to figure out.
    • la pena has fairs, charge people rent to come and sell their goods
    • gerald: govt / white man will want a cut when money is changing hands. we have to keep them satisfied so they don't come investigating
    • joe: as long as there's no surplus that'd be covered?
    • laura: covering org costs is fine, as long as individuals aren't taking it home at the end of the day
    • asaad: we'd break it down the way spaz does. keep 1/3, donate 1/3, etc.
    • robb: nonprofits can pay employees, give stipends
    • jenny: furnishing educational facilities
  • it's pronounced "fie", not "eff why ee"
  • laura: you formed in early 2019? haven't been working together for that long?
    • asaad: we officially formed this year, we organically formed in late 2018, as a result of being in a live-work space together. very new but at the end of the day the bond we built was very productive. we were roommates, would host events. asaad was the newest group at alena museum.
    • niki: they were operating collectively for a lot longer than that
  • laura: what are your goals as an org? be a positive force in community, contribute, curate experiences - anything else you'd say your goals are? your purpose?
    • asaad: beyond fulfillment of individuals, the end goal is contributing to community through craftsmanship, education, event planning
  • laura's excited about painting a mural
    • jenny: the basement walls are begging for it
  • Consenso - Passes: phil FNB, yar Sudo, maryanne Chiapas, ian ccl, dennis LibLens, niki GWS
  • they've been working with silver on the media lab
  • FYE probably won't have events until their space is set up
  • yar: to get keys, go to https://omnicommons.org/keys/
  • they haven't thought about asking help yet. they thought they'd take it on themselves because of not paying rent
    • laura: but you can send emails to discuss/building/volunteers lists if you want asking for help
    • media lab is still common space
    • gerald: there's some things not just about individual effort or trying really hard. some technical things ... like electrical\
    • they'll mostly just get that wall back up
  • FYE won't have an official delegate until trial period over
    • we'll evaluate their trial period on Thursday September 5

helen's commons proposal

  • joe: she wrote it mostly to deal with almaz not following rules
  • yar: is this still an ongoing problem?
    • gerald: no but you need principles
    • jenny: she hasn't come to the last 2 meetings. she was volunteering to bottomline events and then not following through, so we missed those events
