Introductions

Introduce yourself: Name; Preferred Pronoun; Affiliation; any brief announcements; say whether you're a delegate; let us know about any access needs you have†

  • WHY DO WE ASK PRONOUNS? To make space for people who are trans, nonbinary, gender noncomforming or otherwise vulnerable to being misgendered. It's not an invitation to make jokes or trivialize the idea of pronouns. If you are fine with the gender and pronouns society generally assigns to you, please just say what they are without fanfare or embellishment. Conversely, please don't pressure anybody to give their pronouns, as that can harm trans people who are closeted or questioning. The point is to prompt and normalize asking, but not to mandate or enforce. Thank you! <3 Yar

  • we need to schedule fire inspection
  • need to pull permit for kitchen demo - need to have plan set for kitchen; doesn't need to be final plans. ideally would hire a general contractor

Commons

Communications

Finance

  • Meetings: Currently conjoined with fundraising but mostly email
  • Join! https://omnicommons.org/lists/listinfo/finance
  • Jenny submitted Omni's 990 (federal tax) and 199 (CA State) forms via snailmail on August 14th (extended deadline was Aug 15th) and shared the docs via GDrive: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1h5zYq7y5wLpztpLJdDulQyUeSPqZ4rT1
  • The Village has hired a lawyer to inform us that they will be cancelling the fiscal sponsorship agreement, effective 30 days from date of notification, or Sept. 13th.
  • Sarah Lockhart from Safer DIY has finalized her amazingly comprehensive audit of Omni + Village financial transactions. This data will be shared with all parties including Jesse, our lawyer, who will write a response.

Fundraising

  • Meetings: Sundays at noon via Google Meet
  • Join! https://omnicommons.org/lists/listinfo/fundraising
  • MaryAnn met with Natasha on GoFundMe - some labguage edits needed. N will talk to Robb about timing
    • Jenny: Can this be sent to fundraising mailing list?
    • MaryAnn: Natasha is setting this up on her own initiative to raise funds on behalf of Omni. Can submit to various websites which promote GoFundMe campaigns
    • Robb: Should go back to fundraising WG to approve language
    • Jenny: if this is an official Omni fundraiser, important to have consensus by fundraising group, access by other members of the WG etc, tee up 30% of goal prior to launch (committed donors), and have a video + social media content schedule (in concert with omni member collectives boosting, soc media templates, etc) - or it will fail to generate notable income
    • Omni IndieGoGo planning for launch of space, from 2014: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B4_Q7DQvNFT-Vm4yaUFyRHkzRjA?usp=sharing
    • Omni IndieGoGo planning for kitchen from 2018: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B4_Q7DQvNFT-SGppVmNMMDFCbVU?usp=sharing
    • nothing will move forward without fundraising wg consesus found at the next meeting
    • Marcus: Hey Jenny, looking forward to you coming back in in a couple mins or so...
    • Marcus: Maybe, crowdfunding protocols could be written up and posted on the Omni website. If anyone wants to to run one, whether as Omni or even on a personal basis, they still need to read and follow the protocol

Sudo Room

  • Noisebridge, our sister hackerspace in the Mission, is moving (down the street) and could use all hands on deck to support!
  • Marc and Robb scored a nice HEPA filter which should greatly increase air quality. Crucial now as we're entering wildfire season with a dearth of N95 mask availability...

  • submitted by Jenny (sudoroom/sudomesh/finance) on 7/2/2020
    • Previously discussed at July 2nd, July 16th, and August 6th Delegates meetings
  • Proposal: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/13cJJh1HiQK5m8PC-diO7-D_jBjNudpRD?usp=sharing
  • Updates: Updated and fine-tuned budget, proposing to submit formal grant application to delegates upon any fundraising planned/funds accrued/RFOs granted (in discussions with other nonprofit community orgs to create community health coalition) and full reporting (within 30 days) on how all funds raised through Omni were spent.
  • Patrick doesn't see any changes. still concerned about delegates having to approve every single money transaction. would rather the proposal make clear what funds will or won't be used on.
