Agenda

intros

  • We are front-loading most of the meeting into these intros! Now is the time to put forward any of the following things, many of which used to have their own meeting sections
    • introduce yourself: name, pronoun, affiliation, if you're a delegate
    • do you have any unmet access needs at this meeting?
    • what meeting roles you'd like to help with
    • discussion topics or proposals you'd like to put on tonight's agenda
    • report-backs from any of your working groups
    • updates from your collective
    • any brief announcements
    • updates on any conflict mediation
    • if you've asked anybody to leave the building due to safe space issues
  • please be BRIEF! Less than 4 minutes per person! Anything that might take longer must be put on the agenda as a discussion item

Quorum:

  • Rachel: she/her - new campaign, working with women who's kids have been taken by the state, helping getting kids back, its a hidden phenomena happening in this country, we're fighting back on that
  • Patricia: she/her - want to get involved at Omni with healing arts, Dragon and Leslie have been previously involved here, want to get familiarized with the logistics of Omni
  • Rob: there is option to transcribe in Google Meet - could have verbatim transcription (and all our conversations would go to Google...) May have figured out issue with invoices
  • Patrick: he/him - has a proposal for restarting for public events with a better research proposal; also brought a small flameproof cabinet with any collective in need for upcoming fire inspection - Sudo or Fye? It is fairly small - 2 shelves only ~7" tall. OK for paint cans, not tall enough for a bottle of rubbing alcohol.

Conflict mitigation

Rob got a hold of the mediator involved in mediating between him and Silver

  • Someone stole Tom's headphones and denied it when confronted. Tom and Phil know him. Possibly Chicago. Name might be TJ or JD.
    • same person who stole someone's bag at Free Store? Someone may be coming in during Free Store specifically to steal stuff - door are open. Someone at Free Store may have description
    • follow up in email with Tom, Phil, Free Store folks

Finances 10 min

PROPOSAL: Opening for Events

  • Universal mask use required. You are allowed to take a drink as long as you are at least 6ft from anyone else, and reapply your mask immediately
  • Max occupancy for public events: 49 in ballroom, 24 in entrance hall and disco room
  • Social distancing is not required, but still strongly encouraged whenever possible.
  • No music or noise over 85dB, measured *indoors* (e.g. using the iPhone NIOSH Sound Level Meter App). >85dB is considered harmful, and leads to people to have to raise their voices when 3ft away from each other
  • No strenuous physical exercise, singing, or shouting
  • Events with 100% vaccinated participants are exempt from the music / exercise / singing / shouting restrictions. Participants still need to wear masks, and any advertising for the event needs to prominently include the vaccination requirement
  • Any objections? No ojections, we have consensus - approved!

PROPOSAL = COVID-19 Rent Relief - FYE Collective

Dear Omni Commons Finance Working Group & Collective Delegates,

This is our formal request for COVID-19 rent relief, as discussed over the past months. We apologize for the time it has taken us to formulate this and we are grateful for your patience in us reaching out.

We currently owe the Omni Commons rent for all of 2021 (Jan-June) up to this day, except for this current month July 2021:

  • Jan 2021 - $350*
  • Feb 2021 - $350*
  • Mar 2021 - $350*
  • Apr 2021 - $350*
  • May 2021 - $350*
  • June 2021 - $350*

July 2021 - $350 [paid]

$2100 total due
  • We ask that Omni Commons forgives FYE Collective for the current balance

owed: $2100 = 6x months of rent, Jan-June 2021

After much review & support within the larger Omni Commons collective about taking this initiative, we think it is fair to request this relief on the premise of:

a) the Omni Commons itself receiving COVID-19 relief for mortgage payments, while FYE Collective has paid out $3150 (9x months) in rent during the pandemic since March 2020, when the first stay-at-home order and business restrictions were placed.

b) providing equitable support to a Black, Brown & POC member collective, newly founded & heavily affected as a group and individual members by COVID-19, unable to use Omni Commons (closed for 15+ months) as our main, intended to meet, organize, host & fundraise.

As it’s been visible for FYE Collective, like practically all member collectives of Omni Commons, COVID-19 has impeded our ability to operate normally, especially in fundraising, by hosting the workshops & curated shows we usually offer to the community. Not only was this the first time for us experiencing a pandemic, but this also hit us at the time (early 2020) when we truly were beginning to develop momentum, steady income, and grow the community as our mission intends. We had great difficulties and encountered failures in adapting as a collective to other fundraising methods. We’re actively towards regenerating the momentum in organizing/fundraising with a new light in the present moment, as the state slowly reopens... by being able to host again we will be again to develop our steady stream of income.

Today, July 15th, 2021, *we have made a payment for this month of July (receipt attached).* We can and will proceed with rent payments made on time on the 15th of every month as per our original rent agreement unless the Omni Commons closes again due to a spike in the pandemic, which will be something discussed upon happening.

Note: our current invoices received from Omni's Quickbooks have been incorrect as mentioned and recognized in the past - invoices currently state that we owe $3675 (see attached), which is incorrect. We currently owe $2100 after the $350 payment made today.

  • Thank you for your time in reading this letter. We appreciate the

consideration in processing our request to be presented at the 07/15/21 Delegate’s meeting. *

With love & solidarity, FYE Collective

    • Rob notes that none of the fiscally sponsored projects were able to apply for Covid relief grants either
    • Process would be to take this proposal back to collectives, and vote on it next time
  • Sarah reached out to ANV, haven't responded to her email yet

Fire inspection coming up July 29

  • Need to fix exit sign. Ballroom needs TLC. Freestore needs to be moved out. Knoxbox needs to be installed
  • Patricia volunteers weekdays
  • AB volunteers too
  • Patrik will be in Sunday morning
  • First work party this Sunday 18th
    • put together list of tasks before Sunday - riseup pad?
  • Is there agreement from Free Store folks and people using ballroom to move their stuff
    • AB: they are renting dedicated space in basement. Free Store is supposed to be Omni project anyway. ANV will need to go back to using entrance hall.
    • Rob: if we change the use of the entrance hall, city can shut us down for having public events. Sarah said she would work with Vicky to move Free Store gear into tubs in the basement
    • AB: ProArts Uncommon Market on 30th - can invite NOMA to haul all their gear there for a popup Free Store
    • Joe: people from Town Fridge did a great cleanup. Thank you to AB for being a great peace keeper Re: suggestion to move Free Store to ProArts July 29-30
