Agenda

fundraising

  • Omni GoFundMe text + video for review that we hope to launch first thing next week. The fundraising goal is $900k to hopefully save the building itself. All money goes through "PayPal Giving Fund" (see end of Google doc for how that works).
  • Kai: hoping to launch sunday. money goes towards principle of loan to make refi easier. asking for minor edits. people really want to help and have no idea this is happening. please share link widely starting sunday! need volunteers to regularly reup on social media. (silver can help)
  • yar: minor mismatches between gofundme text and video text. a little awkward. not a big deal
  • patrik: more footage of individual collectives, not just ballroom? footage from documentary interviews? maybe followup videos after launch?
    • kai: we only got consent to use interviews for the documentary.
    • patrik thought his interview was for both. oh well
  • kai will notify omni lists once content is finalized, probably sunday midday
  • it's best to coordinate early donations but we don't know who'd do that
  • look at "how to run a good gofundme" ..?

BOGSS update

  • rafiq said they'd work on calling the congress. collectives should submit names!
  • give names to rafiq. not sure the deadline.
  • was it passed with any "probationary period"? no, it was not.
  • did all the signatories have significant input on the proposal? unclear.

Bookkeeping position

  • hiring committee is yar, silver, imma. we plan to offer the position to somebody tomorrow (friday) unless objections from delegates. details redacted from notes. would prefer to set precedent for less delegate micromanaging of committees as it's logistically hard enough to run a hiring committee without needing to run things by these meetings.
  • Committee would like to offer the position tomorrow if possible. Still interviewing people - possible 2-person job.
  • silver: if any delegate wants to be more involved, join the hiring committee!
  • all delegates present are ok with empowering committee to make this decision

tax lawyer

  • yar wants to maybe hire a lawyer for welfare exemption stuff
  • One of main botlenecks for refinance
  • Yar has recommendation for law firm which specializes in this. Will try to set up a meeting

finance updates

  • are we on track to hit our goal for event revenue?
    • Yar: unclear/ leaning to NO. Would be clearer if we had someone keeping an eye on he books. Logistics of setting up bank account for events group is complicated. Is there some legal mechanism without needing to have all signatories at the bank in person?
    • joe: we havne't been close to the income we need. our hope now is that things will go smoothly with cam life - $1K each time, 2x/month. contract situation still messy.

  • Are we on track for refinance?
    • Yar: nothing can be done until we have a bookkeeper
    • we are talking with EBPREC about potential loan, but again, need more detailed books
    • Community Vision has been recommended as well: https://communityvisionca.org/ - less regulated than a bank
  • What would be our backup plan if we cannot refinance?
    • Yar: If we are still in this situation in December, we can just continue to pay and hope for the best?
    • Kai: Not clear about the 900K - what makes the trust able to seize the building? Would we still own part of the equity? (Patrik/Yar/Joe: David would be surprised if it goes for less than $3-4mil. Omni originally bought it for $2mil. Nothing gets assessed until it's sold, in California. Real estate is also increasing in value tremendously.)
    • Patrik: David Keenan mentioned determining in advance how the equity would be shared across the collectives, if the building does need to be shared
    • Joe: put together report on possible alternatives? Including sale, default, partnerships, etc.
      • Kai: EBPREC would be good people to ask these questions - volunteers to inquire
