Omni Commons Commons Working Group Meeting - Thursday 28 January 2016

Dragon - Music Collective Fundraiser

  • Reggae night as ongoing event
    • PP: Dragon
    • Saturday night (9pm-midnight?)
    • Target at least $100-200 for basement
    • $5-25 sliding scale
    • didn't happen, but as a result of that, was thinking of having a Reggae night (ongoing event)
    • two djs that already do it at Au lounge, are willing to do it.

Omni Vapor Lounge

  • Robb, Dragon interested in utilizing Omni space to take advantage of Oakland Measure Z, where you can have a vape space, but it cannot be a dispensary
    • Robb: Need to check with the city on regulations before starting
    • Also, could be a whole scene that does not need alcohol regulation
    • Definitely would need security

Other idea

  • Robb: dancing in the ballroom, only if pioneered by GWS
    • after investigating Vape Lounge

The Mess Disco Room Project

  • TODO
    • Make sure the room is stable; wood tiles, or rug,
    • Put some mirrors up
    • Figure out what to do with the shelves
    • Corner: see about equipment works and decide what to do (possibly Matt S. setup)
  • Rehearsal schedule:
    • earliest need for DR rehearsal space: Saturday Feb 13 (one day only >>> BOOKED on Calendar)
    • Need to at least fix floor first
    • Need it Feb 28- March 26: 5 days per week (Sang to work with Laura to book)
    • Conflicts: 29 Feb- Kamiyo Dojo
    • Technical Rehearsal (must have ballroom) Sun March 27 - Sat April 2 in 7-10pm (Sang to work with Laura to book)
    • actual performance: April 1 and 2 (ballroom)
    • reassess after this first performance
  • The Mess can help by contacting other organizations to fill the Disco Room and

Liberation Ministries Status

  • Laura/Julio/Sadie: Check in on Liberation Ministries contract renewal
    • delayed due to Cheryl's health condition
    • Julio/Laura/Sadie to set up time to meet to close out through February

Techno group wanting to use basement

  • Julio: Met with Russel who wants to do some underground techno parties in the basement. He is really supportive of the Omni's mission, and is willing to pay $200 for the space rental. Encouraged him to fill out a request now even though he's not planning for anything until March/April.
    • Julio: will follow-up with Russel after next month.

Contracts plugin

  • Jenny: Contracts plugin is working, though could stand to be 'prettified' TODO: Document how to use it on the wiki and copy to commons mailing list.
    • Julio: Ask Jenny for a tutorial when she gets back

February Events Status Update

  • Feb 13 Sat - Ballroom - Omni Commons Love Party and Open Mic - https://omnicommons.org/occupy/wordpress/wp-admin/post.php?post=2293&action=edit
    • Point Person: Arthur (FNB). Laura I am not the pp for this. It is an FNB event and so doesn't require a CWG pp, although we do need to keep track of what is going on with it.
    • Offering: $0 + 100% proceeds - costs (suggested donation: $15 for tickets; $10 for food); projected > $1000
    • Attendance: 100-300
    • Status: Flier approved by Commons WG
    • Alignment: Yes (FNB)

    • Point Person: Jeremy
    • Offering: $0; pass the hat for donations
    • Pitch (Laura): "We are in the process of transitioning from renting to owning and we need financial help"
    • Attendance: 100

    • Status: 1/28/16: Need update from Jeremy. Assume all is well until we hear otherwise.

    • Point Person: Laura, but has a committment on that day. Robb willing to do day of work (setup, cleanup), but they're very self-sufficient.
    • Offering: $225 ($45 per hour x 5 hours)

    • Alignment: Yes (Laura: Awesome Foundation has donated to the Omni)
    • Status: Signed contract and paid deposit
  • Feb 27 Sat - 9:30-1am - Ballroom - Fundraiser for fraternity at UC Berkeley
    • Larry Atkins
    • Dance party; have their own security and sound. Lower sound after 11pm
    • No alcohol since University event
    • Need insurance
    • PP: Laura will do the paper work and be there on the event. Jeremy will be there.
    • Offering: $500
    • Attendance: 200
    • Alignment: TBD
    • Status: 1/28/16 will pay tomorrow
