Omni Commons Commons Working Group Meeting - Thursday 10 March 2016

3/1 updates from Laura:

  • I emailed Celebration Party to tell them we cant host their event and deleted. It came in late and was another big hiphop party. These events seem to have a real problem finding venues.
  • I will pp the late request Simbi Party in the disco room 3/16

Liberation Ministries

Want to restart SUnday morning services only. Still owe $250 from previous contract. Don't want Friday nights. We agree $50 per service, with them being open to move to another space with 1 month notice once in a while.

Security Needs for Events post Shooting

  • talk to other event spaces such as gilman, humanist hall, eastside
  • Yar and David talked to Officer D Allison at station. He sadi places can be shut down if the city decides it attracts a crowd that is likely to carry guns. Advises us to either choose event carefully, or hire major security. If we or event holder hire OPD, they take the blame if there is an issue. Ask neighborhood services, felicia, for advice about security. David may halready have done that. Yar will check.

      • 3/5: note from yar: I gave a long tour to Roke from a group called "Conscious Queer Commons". They are very interested in doing stuff at Omni, but want to start out by trying to host a danceclass "mixing Indian dance movements". They would want a 10 week commitment for Thursday nights (say, April 7 - June 9) but I'll start out by just requesting the first slot. Does this work? Do we anticipate any conflicts? They are willing to pay a reasonable rate - don't have a number yet but I want to confirm the dates first.

  • The Fraternity fundraiser that was requested by Larry has been cancelled after he was very slow in signing the contract and paying, and handed out flyers that didn't look anything like the event he proposed at the hip hop show on Saturday.
  • Northern California Resilience Network meeting cancelled as they found a private home with no alcohol restrictions where to have the event. They are eager to collaborate in the future though.
