Announcements

  • M.A. - CSC- found a few things missing, paintings. and also the cord for the coffee pot
    • if anyone knows where the painting or the cord is please let
    • aparently the coffee pot was taken out of CSC closet upstairs, but Rachel from GWS couldnt use bc it didnt have the cord. had to have been somebody w/ a key to the room
      • happy to let people use it, but CSC needs it once a month
      • Helen - does there need to be a new lock on the room closet. its up next to the Omni oiffce, in the TIL office. its supposed to be locked all the time.
      • TIL hasn't been asked yet.
    • Phat Beets has a ton of catering stuff
  • Julian - Auntie Frances is facing eviction. Have valentines to her & her landlord. If you'd like, you can add a message on a valentine. Court Action to support Auntie Frances at 8am on February 21st. Initiative for statewide rent control, please sign if Alameda resident. Border Patrol author coming to Green Apple Books on Monday & East Bay Booksellers...need people to call bookstores in protest.
  • Rahcel - on Monday March 19th at 7pm - 4 women from Thailand, working with a sex worker group in Thailian called Empower Founcation , are on tour. a 50,000 strong organization - very well recongnized internationally. coming to the Bay Area, and GWS is having an event at the Omni. https://omnicommons.org/calendar/events/empower-panel-discussion/

  • Julian - RW may sign an agreement statement.
  • joe Speaking to one of the Seeds mediators they brought up that in one of the mediation sessions RW or someone from his team noted that all regs at omni are not enforced equally or to all people.
    • This mediator recommended that Omni may do well to work with either AORTA or Critical resistance to address thi situation.
      • Helen - do people feel that this is true, that there are issues.
    • Mary Ann - is it under consideration that we bring in any group that
      • Robb - I can't think of any incidents that would require that
    • Richard - what's the grievance process
    • Rachel - is there a working group already dealing with it.

Working Group Report-Backs

Building & permits

Meetings: 1st & 3rd Mondays @ 6pms

  • Yar & Julian signed up to find facilitators for the building and working
  • Almaz - its important that the group have a facilitator so that new people have a person to connect with
    • Robb- the main problem is that people just weren't showing up for 3 in a row. people keep showing up to meet. the email list is still active, but the meetings aren't happening
      • its a practical working group, so weirdly

Commons

Meetings: First and Third Thursdays at 6pm

  • Almaz - our meeting was on 2/4 & next is on the 25th. Also a meeting on 2/8.
  • Helen - a question raised recently about a disruptive event. there was the idea of something being added to the contract to
  • Robb - there was an incident at a recent event. if you have alcohol & more than 50 people, maybe you could benefit from more security. nothing decided since.
    • February 3rd
      • That event also brought into question our "no calling the police". The event organizers were upset that becaoue Omni rep stopped them from making such a call
        • one of their attendees was hurt by the problem person. Fortunately when OPD came they were calm and problem person was also calm

Meetings: Second and Fourth Wednesdays at 6pm

Finance

Meetings: Currently conjoined with Fundraising, 2nd & 4th Mondays at 6pm

  • Mary Ann - none new
  • Robb - property tax exemption is going out today. Jenny mailed it out!
  • Cafe - bc they are for profit they can't have a representative on their delegates board. if they can't be a member, then how can they use space here freely? there are a great number of questins about
    • Jane - police often come into coffee shops & that's a problem
      • Julian - we can have a no cops policy under right to refuse service
        • Asia - having worked out cafes, its all about the pressure
          • "we only have civilian coffee"
          • "no donuts that's all"

Fundraising
