Agenda
intros
- We are front-loading most of the meeting into these intros! Now is the time to put forward any of the following things, many of which used to have their own meeting sections
- introduce yourself: name, pronoun, affiliation, if you're a delegate
- do you have any unmet access needs at this meeting?
- what land are you on?
- what meeting roles you'd like to help with
- discussion topics or proposals you'd like to put on tonight's agenda
- report-backs from any of your working groups
- updates from your collective
- any brief announcements
- updates on any conflict mediation
- if you've asked anybody to leave the building due to safe space issues
- please be BRIEF! Less than 4 minutes per person! Anything that might take longer must be put on the agenda as a discussion item
intros
- patrik: ccl tried to do giving tuesday fundraiser at facebook, but couldn't get "id verification" in time - posts still coming. roof coating leaked into ccl, then sudo
- yar: updates on agenda
- marc: sudoroom had attendance this week - 10 ppl for hardware hack night Tuesday. Trying to reactivate sudo mesh to bring 4G to encampments. Now access to T-mobile (instead of Sprint), so better coverage
- patricia she/her, Proposed Healing Arts Collective. Interested in offering sliding scale. people already have their own insurance. Considering unincorporated association.
- Joe: put in some volunteer time on roof. FnB doing really well, in Covid mode. One serving switched from togo boxes to cafetaria style. Got large conation from volunteer - buying socks and tarps for people in encampments. Exciting to see how ballroom will look all cleaned up for this WE event. More event proposals coming in.
Roof work update
- Mike & crew (plus a bunch of volunters) finished 1st layer this past weekend. Trapdoor padlocked. 2nd layer should go up this coming weekend. Hoping HD will restock the roof coating in time (Pacific Supply in Oakland?)
- skylights are on order; work should happen mid-January
under stage cleanup
- DK cleaned up rat poop under ballroom stage!
- sarah's been doing that too!
healing collective
- haven't been able to set up conversation with sarah or david. how to start working? what is the consensus? would prefer "unincorporated association" or whatever is easiest in the short term. just want to start work.
- doing massage at saturday's event. want to see how loud it is in the office.
- sarah joins - UI
- Main issues are insurance, and taxes. Members have their own insurance already. Jesse would need to give input on which route makes most sense - nonprofit, sponsored project (grant vs project), or unincorporates assoc (partnership or association).
officers
- secretary of state form is due. officer election next meeting, 12/16?
- marc wouldn't mind being secretary
sudo room Covid-19 rent relief request
sudo room hereby formally requests to have our current rent debt owed to Omni forgiven. The total amount is $24k (one year of rent). sudo room's total income is currently half of our monthly rent.
- Our plan moving forward
sudo room has been slowly reactivating, and this week we had our first event with 10 people in attendance. We are planning to spend our current savings making up for our lack of income to pay our full rent starting January 2022 as well as making small infrastructure upgrades to entice new members to the space.
We are currently reaching out to members who have stopped paying membership fees over the course of the pandemic to see if any are able to afford at least a partial contribution going forward.
We have also tentatively started planning a crowdfunding campaign centered on infrastructure upgrades and have been told by Noisebridge members that they are willing to do a donation match for such a campaign.
Space available for Prisoners Literature Project?
- Bruno Ruhland <bruhland@sbcglobal.net>: "The Prisoners Literature Project https://www.prisonlit.org/ has long outgrown our space at Grassroots House. We need a room probably 500 square feet more or less where we can have our book library and a workspace for meetings and packing books to send for prisoners. We could pay $1000-$2000 a month. Does such a space possibly exist there ? If so I can tell you more about our requirements etc...."
- Bruno from PLP is meeting Dane from Omni Sunday 11am
david's ballroom work
- reaffirm $1500 ask from last meeting?
- marc supports. anv supports. CCL supports
20% proposal?
- dk proposed that 20% of ballroom proceeds go to improvements https://omnicommons.org/pipermail/consensus/2021-November/003111.html
- CONSENSUS: yes (sudo, ccl) delay (fnb)
- it is delayed
commons/booking wg
- Requests are coming in - NY Eve parties etc. Critical that we don't have continuity/structure in booking group - everybody picking up individual events we want to do.
- yar: primarily we need more people; had 4 ppl last Friday though.
- filipino farmers wanted event in ballroom, entrance hall and basement for $200. PLACE already booked them for $100.
maskless events
- some events want to be maskless and require vaccines. can we let them?
- would any omni folks want to volunteer for a maskless event?
- patrik: i wouldn't say that's safe. i wouldn't want to be in the building.
- silver: saturday's event is requiring masks, temp check at door, prefer vax or negative test. but there'll be tea.
- patrik: park food truck outside? for another time
ongoing mediations update
- yar: as far as jenny's ban i feel like personally, after talking to both jenny and assad, it was clear to me that what everyone involved was ok with was for jenny to be welcome back at omni as long as she's sober and doesn't hold a position of power over anyone.
- this statement was highly contested - to date, yar is the only person upholding the legitimacy of this ban; no actual evidence / factual statements have been made re: abuse of power, and no attempts made at explaining what went sideways - nor have there been any attempts to communicate from AB's end.
