Aspirations for Liberated Lens & Oakland Privacy

  • LL has been on somewhat of a hiatus, but is doing well with funding left, and has some interesting projects coming up.
  • Oakland Privacy would like Omni to continue handling fiscal sponsorship - $2500 to Omni out of their $25,000 grant.

Future of Omni nonprofit

  • John willing to serve on Omni nonprofit. Board meetings need to be more efficient. Wants to maintain aspirations and idealism. Fiscal sponsorship is key part, but not only part. Omni incubated many new groups over the years. Mission and Vision need to be revisited.
  • Paige: some fiscally sponsored projects may not want a board position. LL, Free Store and CeeCee have both expressed interest
  • William: current delegate structure and meetings may not be best way to get work done.
  • Toan: Most FNB members don't really consider the nonprofit org important. Physical space and community is more important. Nonprofit should continue to exist to help groups that don't have 501(c)3
  • John: Advocate for continued use of the space as community resource, grow projects. CALLI and EBPREC are down with that mission, but somewhat new to it.
  • Paige already volunteered to be representative for Free Store.
  • Patrik: Could switch over board names next time we meet, Jan 2nd? Just change the section that appoints delegates. Offer board position to any sponsored project.

Omni finances

  • Paige will check in with Brignoli insurance. at least one check was undelivered.
  • Still owe money to SDIY, Jenny, Philip, Phil (plus Jesse and Sarah?). Need to decide how much to pay each. Maybe as soon as we have final number from insurance refund.
  • SL (from pad) : beneficial NOMA account?
    • Paige: Bank needs to see some official documents that NOMA disbanded? Getting a hold of former NOMA people and asking them for a favor for Omni may be problematic.
      • Patrik: Sounds like we might need to count on never getting that money back?

Building updates

  • Is roof fixed yet? Any ETA? (If fully fixed by Dec 25, rent for Sudo and CCL will go up by 15%)
  • Other issues from last meeting (Toan was going to check in with Valerie):
    • Upstairs restroom near disco room not fixed (sink blocked) - FIXED
    • Light above side entrance. No power to the light fixture? - FIXED
    • Use room next to trash or old tool room for communal tool use? - still pending
    • Mail room now locked. Mail needs to be sorted, accessible, and reliable. - still pending. Need better communication
