New Bans

  • Add to list of people asked to leave
  • jenny: Possible issue with a guy arose last night, communicated over text message (friend of a friend), he was found in the kids room (not sleeping, just computing), asked to leave and was amenable to engaging in conflict resolution process. sudo discussing.
  • Almaz states that the delegates have approved a proposal to lock the classroom.
    • Where is this documented? There is evidence that the children's room may be being used inappropriately (bra found in room).
      • jenny: ah, that wuz mine. spent many hours over the past few weekends in there working with and helping babysit for franki and dragon's babies while we were working on their legal case, and it must've fallen out of my bag (i tend to be running late and throw "professional-garb" into my backpack before i leave, and ashoka likes to explore my bag when im not looking. also, it was a bathing suit top, meant to be worn under a neat tanktop [which wuz also in my bag], whereas i often head to omni in a sports bra and tshirt in the event i get to painting / sweating).
      • let the record stand that the room wuz actually being used completely appropriately as a much-needed commons space - an accessible, kid-friendly workspace for a comrade POC mother in our community. she appreciated the rooms very very much, as she does not otherwise have access to any kid-friendly workspaces. wuz also hooking her up with a laptop cuz ashoka tore all the keyboard keys off the last one i gave her :P
        • tldr, via jenny: talk to the community using your space, and don't assume ill will or inappropriate behavior - especially before declaring such a valued community space locked and off-limits.
    • Almaz made the proposal last year after things were stolen from the class room. After discussion in one meeting, she met with BAPS to see if they could reach an agreement, since BAPS uses the space and was opposed. Here is the relevant notes from the following meeting (ALmaz wasn't there so Julian reported):

"Our proposal is to add a lock with a code to the doors to the room. Anyone who wants to use the room when it is free can get the code from us. We have discussed this with BAPS and they are in agreement with this arrangement. We appreciate your attention to this request.

      • Julian: Almaz communicated with me that this proposal will largely be withdrawn by GCEA, but that we should return to it next time
        • we're going to find a locked cabinet for the space to see if that keeps things satisfactorily secure."
