Weekly Omni Delegates Meeting - 16 April 2015

The meeting begins at 7pm, every Thursday, and ends promptly at 9pm, unless we agree to continuation. Contents:

Introductions

Announcements

Any Omni-related announcements. Please be brief! Maximum 1 (one) minute per announcement. Reminder: Working Groups reports are after this, please save W.G. announcements for later.

  • BHCL still carefully deliberating on feedback and deliberating on next steps (No discussion this week.)
  • Informal request that front door remain closed from now on if La Commune area is unstaffed by a welcoming committee member ('front desk') or a La Commune member.
    • If anyone staffing the front steps away for longer than a couple minutes, the front door should be closed, and reopened if desired upon their return. Rationale: Safe space and gradually increasing theft issue. (If there is a class or event going on somewhere in the building that is not near the front door, they should either staff the front door, or answer the doorbell.)

Working Group Report-Backs

Please be brief! Maximum 5 (five) minutes per W.G. WGRBs are Alphabetical; All W.G.s are equally important. Report-backs consist of answering 3 (three) questions:

  • What did you accomplish this week?
  • What problems or action items are you currently working on?
  • What do you need to bring to our attention and/or need help with?

Building, permits, and Facilities

  • Continuing to meet mondays at 8pm. Lot of new people signing up to take on aspects of construction
    • Would be great to have people sign up to do data entry type work for building committee/finance--put word out to your networks. you prob know one or two people who like to do that sort of thing.

Challenging Domninant Culture (CDC)

  • Someone has offered to pay for OMNI people to have a training on restorative justice on a sunday in May. About 4 hours. Prob not May 24th because we have a loud event that day. If anyone is interested, let CDC group know. They meet every other sunday at 3pm (not this sunday, but next) or you can email the listserv for more info.

Commons

  • Nothing to report. Just a reminder no new events are being accepted in the ballroom for the first two weeks of May to make room for construction. Commons workroup meets Saturday at 1pm to plan events and work out issues around events and common space.

Communications / SysAdmins

  • This group needs to be populated with humans.

How We Organize

  • this group also needs to be populated with humans.

Finance

  • Really need more finance folks -- maybe commons people can slide over while taking a break in may
  • New budget form and process
  • Phat Beets
  • change address with CA Sec of State
  • Figure out who random money transfers came from--maybe email commons group with list of names if we can't find them in invoices
  • Building Workgroup/Finance meeting last week--determined point person for major projects and discussed projects. We need to figure out how to deal with project budget requests.
    • we should prioritize projects we can get reimbursed for
    • we should prioritize projects that will get us permits and accessibilty

    • Amgo will put this proposal out again with more detail as a suggestion rather than a formal proposal

Action Items

  • Mural design--Grace is thinking about charting our own star constellations for the mural theme. Is considering coming up with some configurations and allowing people to contribute ideas/changes. Getting started next week. Grace will book the space on the calendar as it won't be avaiable during painting.
  • What should we do with this meeting to make it useful? Have it biweekly or monthly instead of weekly?
    • What about decisions that need timely discussion? How about making the meeting delegates-only? Should we have a meeting if there's no quarrum?
    • Ideally folks should be taking all this info from delegates meeting and reporting back to their collectives and each collective should be represented at the meetings
    • Matt will write proposal to make the meetings less frequent--everyone should bring this question back to their collectives, discuss, and bring suggestions/opinions next week. Matt will turn this suggestions into the proposal.
