Meeting Minutes 4/27/15

David K office hours: Tuesdays @ 11am prob in TIL office

  • Electrical - Mike came through and finished running a brand new circuit to the den, now has own 20 amp; TIL has 2 20amp for xerox machine (will pay for it); computer terminals have their own circuit. So this side of the 2nd floor is done. 2 fridges have thier own circuit. Mike will come back one more time next Saturday.

LC wants ot start dealing with their electircal. Planninng on hiring MIke.

  • 2 ballasts replaced and now working in the basement
  • Architectural - Rec'd from Will plans for widening the doors under the stage to make storage of flammables like wood easier. WIll help us nstop using the Ticket Booth room for storage. Will just has to make a materials list and budget. Julia (structural engineer) made some modifications. WIll said will take 1-2 days doesn't need help.
  • South wall - Sean L and Rob started pulling off the veneer and discovered there is notheing there. Explains why sound is going right through that wall. Can look in Maintenance closet to see how the rough framing is. DK sent pics to the sound eng and others rough consensus is we should take off venner, put up double drywall and build a double wall. With insulation in between. Will be done in a way to maximize stc rating. Will need to have some things permitted and some not. PMce veneer removed we are messing w exisiting wall and permit is required technically (SHearing,etc). Need to have 2 stage ; 1 take off veneer and put up drywall right away, well sealed. 2 stud out double wall. the ceiling of the balcony along the s wall is probably aloso uninsulated so that may need to be removed and drywalled. Drawing for this will be ready tomorrow or day after. DK wants ot tie to ADA permits

We need to maek some consisten progress before we have another inspaction. IF SUDO wants to replace your EXIT light can go ahead, but even something that seems simple can be comlicated becasue of old wiring, ex: exit light might be attached to a switch and so new conduit will have to have new conduit run. Inspector will prob ask about the new struts in the cafe. Prob not to code. LC needs a buildiing liaison person that's not Niki

  • Joe: Went to the city with DK. Transom on the front corner door is just an inch shy of the required 80" height.
  • People on the building group express frustration about the way work is progressing, DK not responding to the collective process that was set up.
  • Roan - we shouldn't be calling DK a repository of knowledge. We have some repsonsibility in this.
  • jenny - we should be a building study group also
  • Matt: What are we missing?
  • Joe : DK very concerned about the zoning and use permits. HE knows an incredible amount and we have to gethat out of him. What if he i right that we could blow the whole thing with the zoning people.
  • Roan: Got in touch with Claus last week about alternatives to sprinklers
  • Jessie: We can build something really wonderful that could live well beyond all of us - that should be the motivating factor, not the fear of the

  • Matt: Someone at the planning dept knew a lot about the project, questioned why he was pulling so many permits - DK had to be evasive

  • What kind of documents have been submitted wrt land use? What stage are they at? Who do we deal with? What else has to happen? What is the order they happen in, and how does that ordering lead to the final Lette of Determination

  • Egon sending accountant to finance
  • Roan talked to Klaus, wants documentation from us: operating budget for all the code work; copies of change of use documentation; they talked about fire systems - David may have a contact at the Port of Oakland with a lot of political sway - we should maintain that contact
  • Joe and Matt went up on the roof, found the exhaust fan for downstairs kitchen, took down serial number, measured how many cubic feet of air it pulls out
  • Joe and DK went to the city, Building and Land Use. We should have at least 4 people. Joe went to Building, DK to Landmarks. Joe discussed door height for ADA; made a new contact. DK talked with Betty about getting Landmarked
  • Ballroom soundproofing - Seb and DK did sound readings and Bryan made a preliminary design that the city's liking.
  • Sean and Matt started labeling all circuits and uploading the circuits and panels to the wiki

Action Items

  • Replace exit light in sudo - a new one is located under the stairs in the sudo room closet.
  • Exit light from the Disco Room (on the other side of the Disco Room) needs to be replaced
  • Exit light in the stairwell leading to the Disco Room needs to be replaced
  • Replacing ballasts as well?
    • Pass on to Sudo Room, maybe Whitney?
  • Jenny will ask DZ if he can be building liaison for La Commune
  • Joe: Use a level to measure the grade for two possible front entrances (for ada) at 48th St vs Shattuck
    • Part of front door task plan.
  • Share UCB lawyers writeup of our use codes
    • Jenny will put on OwnCloud
  • Map out relationships w/ city folks
    • Shawn and Joe will copy names and contacts; Jenny and Matt will help document
  • Egon will explore electric strikes, sync with Marc and Dusty
  • Joe to arrange a meeting with John re: building projects - eg the drywall in La Commune and insulating the opening to the Disco Room
  • Finalize front door plan - Joe will call contractors re: kickers
  • Patrik to finalize tree of the subpanels, Matt needs to indicate which breakers
  • Matt to coordinate w/ Grace re: the public terminals moving for the mural painting
