  • =Planning for Fun Fun Fun Omni (Fun!)= Sunday, May 17, 3 - 5 pm=

Attendees

  • Yar
  • Dusty
  • Julio's Input From Earlier Today:

I'm working with Tatiana of the NORJC to support/lead a community building circle on May 31. I think we should allocate at least an hour to this activity, but I'm talking with her this week to hammer out the details.

Yar had some ideas about doing something different too (fishbowl?) which maybe could be explored as another activity for this event or a future celebration.

Whoever was interested in the May 30 Restorative Justice training by NORJC should have gotten a form in email to RSVP. I'll froward what I have to the folks that I think were going, but let me know if you don't see it.

Agenda

  • What do we need in order to plan for the party?
  • Carol's challenging dominant culture 12 step meetings

Party planning

  • Yar: How much structure is there, has this party taken a shape?
    • Yar will facilitate/curate an on-the-fly open mic
  • Yar thinks playing by ear will be smart. Don't want to waste all the energy potentially redirecting it towards something pre-planned that doesn't do justice to it. But also have planned activities ready.
  • Dusty: Wants to do a "radical imagination" activity which will look like an ongoing table or interactive space throughout the party in the cafe.
  • Yar: NUMBER ONE thing is that a lot of us prepare our emotional reserves for that day, make sure we have energy ready to pay attention to other peoples' needs during the day of.
  • and making sure people know about it
    • Dusty: I will put together a flyer, and I'm very open to suggestions/input from folks.
  • Yar: We should do this as an Omni birthday party. Perhaps a lease-signing part?
  • Dusty: This would be great, and we would have to re-name it or something.

Food

  • potluck, but really reach out to individuals to make sure that food will be made

Sound

  • We need to ensure that the sound system will work, who is a person to get that going?
  • Dusty: going with a P.A. system is going to be best, in the sense that we won't have to deal so much with more complicated sound system.

Carol's challenging dominant culture 12 step meetings

  • Jenny shared and email from Carroll's email in order to establish a weekly 12 step style "recovery from dominant culture" group.
    • We will schedule this at Omni
