  • Joe: I hope this doesn't take too long. Famous last words
  • yar: that's what we said when we signed the lease
  • laura: no energy to facilitate
  • anka
  • rob
  • max
  • sean
  • remote-jenny

Report backs

... on Todos and progress for the past week

Joe:

  • Tape Disco Room window & work on S Wall
    • didn't tape the disco window because we started the south wall. we have to find some mud. just a 2 hour job though.
    • not worrying about the other side
  • emails from dk
    • just read 4 lengthy detailed emails from dk
    • must find perfect kind of insulation, how to secure, etc...
    • wants to put resilient channel on the south wall but we already put the rock up
    • a bit overwhelmed by revisionism. but love all around.
    • rob thinks maybe it's a good idea to take the rock down again, but others emphatically don't think so
    • rob suggests sealing the siding? sean says no, it's supposed to breathe to avoid rotting, that's the point
  • Ensure plan is submitted to city
    • pulling stuff as an owner-builder. plans are complete, John just need to sign a letter.
    • next step: make appointment for framing inspection
    • we need a good caulker who doesn't mind squeezing stuff all day long
    • also need insulation
    • we can start building the walls while we decide on the insulation
    • big event thursday but we can build tue & wed
    • need to buy lumber & big 29oz caulk tubes. joe will fill out a finance form for lumber.
    • we have a list of everyone willing to loan their truck!
    • we'll start caulking 10am tomorrow
    • nail gun w/compressor is ready to go
  • Meeting w/ Mary & John tomorrow - finding stack of pictures
    • still don't have the scrapbook of articles

Jenny:

  • Order drywall - done
  • Order electric strike, panic bar - strike still needs some research, panic bar & mechanical override have been ordered and door closer has arrived
    • jenny just wrote a new email, found cheaper panic bars on ebay, considering cancelling the order
    • dusty should make this decision
    • quality doesn't matter too much? ADA only matters on the corner door
    • how hard is finding a compatible mechanical override?
    • dk may have some info tomorrow
    • marc says don't cancel until you're sure the override exists and you can get it. he's looking right now.
  • MSDS for sudo - Need to know exactly what's needed - Marc has offered to help. Jenny will sync w/ DK tomorrow morning
  • Ask Jake to finish basement ballasts - "ok soon"
  • ordered sound-insulating 'green glue' - should arrive by Friday (currently in San Leandro, so probably sooner. is being shipped straight to omni.)
  • what should I order next?
    • joe: we don't know. still deciding on insulation types
      • one kind is easily attached to walls, won't take up much dead air space, expensive
      • alternative is fiberglass/rockwall. but does it come with paper backing?
      • rob: i like brian's idea of having just denim on one side with no insulation
      • joe: you're the only one
      • much disagreement on insulation strategies. many ideas.
      • rob: the whole idea of a base trap is to have air space. 2 inches doesn't do it.
      • joe: last studio i built we had egg cartons
      • rob: but dead air is a really good base trap
      • anka: mice will chew up the egg cartons
      • joe: yeah we're not doing that
      • rob: expensive to buy all that extra insulation when it won't be very noticable
  • jenny has the bank card and the ebay account info

anka:

  • waiting for the door parts, apparently they're here now though
    • which? the panic bar and mechanical override won't arrive until the end of next week unless we find an alternative in town
    • marc & jake are researching the electric strike stuff for card access but it's harder than they expected. might just go ahead with panic bars for now.

Laura:

Robb:

  • Tear up the rug
    • most of the mold is in the middle of the rug?
  • Assess mold situation
  • Working on ballroom lighting
  • jessie said it'd be a couple weeks. middle room has visible black mold. thinking of sealilng things with plastic and cutting out the 2 big spots.
  • there's a bunch of crap in there. it's all my fault. i can condense it. maybe trash some stuff.
  • laura: try to get some help from MPM & Phat Beets
  • rob: maybe later, carpet & drywall cutting is easy
  • one of big ed's trash room tables is down there right now

yar:

  • still trying to figure out what concrete sealant to pour in the bathroom floor
  • there's a bucket here but joe says it just smells like ammonia, nothing else
  • might need to buy something new
  • will test this stuff on a piece of broken concrete

Key budget from DK

  • he sent a long email about this today
  • big $7.50 security keys for the front door
    • should not be an omni expense, people should invest in their own key, would ask for key deposit from key holders
  • there'll be a process for who gets an external key. non-members just have to fill out a form. internal keys won't change.

TO DOs

  • GEt fire extinguisher guy to come and charge/install all necessary extinguishers
    • First need to gather all the ones we have not currently mounted, Jenny will coordinate this tomorrow and reach out to John ( fire suppressionn guy not landlord). His proposal was possibly contingent on accepting the estimate for the kitchen hood, would need to pull permit for that (4-6 weeks out). Joe thoughts?
    • joe: john the fire suppression guy is charging us 4-5k and everything's included in that cost. getting a good deal because it's such a big job.
    • guy that gives FNB sandwiches on fridays has a company called natural choice. he offered us a free convection oven, even offered to pay to help wire it to 3-phase
    • convection oven would have to go under the hood, replacing part of the wolf. but won't get the fire suppression.
    • tell jenny to go ahead with john

Signage

  • We need several 'This is not an exit' signs made - could maybe use the laser cutter?
    • "1910.37(b)(5)Each doorway or passage along an exit access that could be mistaken for an exit must be marked "Not an Exit" or similar designation, or be identified by a sign indicating its actual use (e.g., closet)."
    • "keep 3 feet clear in front of this panel" in front of Rise Above electrical panels (2) and Disco Room (1)

^^ These are on the anyone-can-do task list items. Organizing who will do these tasks is under way.

Other

Rob:

  • making shelf for cardboard storage in the trash room
  • Tuesday FNB crew have been putting out all the trash lately. let's send them a special thank-you.

Joe:

  • mural upstairs is done. grace wants to buy a varnish glaze to protect it, but that's expensive. maybe just moulding at the bottom to protect from chair legs.
  • PB max wants to recruit berkeley students to work on the kitchen
    • actual cafe owner visiting on thursday. wants to teach "youth food entreprenurial startup things"
    • getting lots of people involved in design & planning phase
  • what about 3-phase? do we definitely want it?
    • crickets. seems so.
    • CCL & Sudo need it
    • bands like it
    • doesn't mean rewiring, it can service all the 120, it's just a new box
    • fuckers across the street are paying so wth

Jenny:

  • Omni has $55K total in all bank accounts, and our rent is about to increase 3%.
  • we'll be done by the end of may. we can do it. we got lots of good hands. just need to make the decisions.
    • <33
  • work is happening during the day and most events are in the evenings, so we can go ahead and have more ballroom events
  • but we need fire to sign off in order to have the big events
  • also paper towels. capoeira people were freaking out because of no paper towels.
    • paper towels are in the secure storage, as well as some metal paper towel holders to be mounted in the downstairs & upstairs ballroom bathrooms.
    • talking about electric hand-dryers
      • pedal-powered hand dryers :)
