Building WG June 22, 2015

Attendees

Joe, Laura, Matt, Anka, remote-jenny, Yar

sound wall

  • We passed the first rough framing inspection last Wed. The inspector was nice. Joe wonders where is the inpection card.
  • Not much seems to have been done since then. Rob was working on something. Joe will find Sean and they'll pick up again.
  • Joe askes about the budget for the wall.

disco room

basement

  • rob: we need more borax. then i can steam clean the middle room, and maybe phat beets. then all the carpet will have been treated. i haven't smelled any mold. everything seems fine. seems basically gone. we still need to replace that wall. we'll need some 2x4 and some drywall. i think it's 1/2" drywall. We have a lot of that 3/4 stuff but we need 1/2. want to wash all the walls in the basement from midway down. it inhibits fungal growth.

ethernet

  • Finished running CCL node and Disco Room node
  • Still need to mount basement node and La Commune node (tomorrow)
  • Basement cable run requires wider drill bit, finishing tomorrow
  • Need to install a switch to the public terminals, finishing tomorrow

electrical

  • Gerald has been working with Laura on the small to medium electrical jobs
  • a couple of problems have been identified. Mezzanine bathrooom outlet had no ground. Gerald suggests running wire into wall, installing ground, to put GFI plug above counter.
  • ALso, we should run conduuit from small kitchen in to bathroom next door to put in a plug and light. Existing light is shorted.

cafe bathroom

  • yar finally asked patrik about the paint. CCL used all their paint doing their closet floor. We should just use Laura's paint.

doors

  • Very frustrating. Dusty's gone. Anka needs a crew. Dusty made a spreadsheet and doc with information on doors.
  • Jessie wants to help with doors. Worked a little bit on the Sudo/CCL hallway door
  • double doors from ballroom to LC are in a tight place. They might hit the temporary wheelchair lift.
    • Jenny: they should be fine re: wheelchair lift. the inconvenient bit is the south door to the blue classroom, we'll probably need to lock that. info via david responding to dusty.
    • Matt: Doors from ballroom to LC must not be "Double Acting (Swinging) Doors" - ca code:

(Title 24, Part 2, Section 2-3303(g)(2).) (i) Double Acting (Swinging) Doors. (1) Doors swinging both ways and located between rooms such as kitchen and dining room, or storeroom and sales floor, shall be provided with view panels. One shall be provided for each door of swinging double doors. (2) Windows, if used, shall be kept free of dirt or other obstruction to vision. (3) The bottom of the view panel or window shall be no more than 48 inches above the floor. (Title 24, Part 2, Section 2-3303(b)(2)(C).) (4) The size of the view panel or window shall be no less than 200 square inches. (Title 24, Part 2, Section 2-3303(b)(2)(B).) (5) Guards shall be placed over windows which are not of the shatter-proof or wired glass type. (Title 24, Part 2, Section 2-3303(b)(2)(D).) (6) Glass in swinging doors shall conform to the provisions of Section 3242(d). (Title 24, Part 2, Section 2-3303(b)(2)(E).) (7) Double acting doors shall not be used as exits serving a tributary occupant load or more than 100, nor shall they be used as part of a fire assembly, nor equipped with panic hardware.

      • Jenny: This doesn't apply as our doors are grandfathered into our permits... or, our permits grandfathered into our doors, something like that.
      • Matt: Hrm, we at least know that fire inspectors will consider these doors to be part of a fire exit. As far as they are concerned, if we want them to be able to be locked, they must have panic bars. I think we're stuck on that part. The next question is whether or not we need to mount "door closers" which would effectively change the doors from being "Double Action" to "Single Action", closing in one direction and being limited from swinging too far...
        • Matt: This is what Claus said, and my general understanding of our position on fire exit safety?
          • Jenny: Right, they must be lockable/latchable and thus also need to have panic bars, but I think maybe they don't need door closers? Maybe a question for Claus?
          • Matt: Yeah, that's our question right now... could call him, indeed.

CCL

  • When they get their $ from Kickstarter would like to start doing work starting with electrical.

Budget

  • About $2500 left in fund designated to building.
  • We should have a meeting with finance to discuss how much more $ we can use.
  • Each project should have a projection for what is needed to complete
  • We have a lot of stuff in storage that we dont need in the the short-med term that we can return to home depot.

Next week

  • Get Gerald in to do more electrical tasks
  • Start sheetrocking of S wall
  • Try to finish up with door closers in ballroom. ASk for help from experienced door person
  • Use cement paint Laura brought to paint ADA bathroom floor.
  • Need to seal holes coming into building to keep mice and rats out. Patrik has stuff to do this. there is also steel wool in the storage. Wednesday afternoon.
  • Update https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UC4TRflYiM_8HcOwJ5U8CPLwUQyJP5JPWF6D09tia2o/edit#gid=1330024239 and disperse list to willing volunteers
