  • Robb: Production collective idea 10 mins
  • Current event review and coordination.

Mari's ideas on events

  • Maria has been running events for a while, mostly gaming events. Has been involved with Sudo for about 6weeks
  • Knows 2 chiptune bands that are willing to play for beer and pizza, maybe 12/12. They mamke music with music from video games
  • Wants to bring in consoles form Noisebridge in conjunctin with the event.
  • Julio: that date is open
  • Laura: fundraisers at the Omni have historically, not generated a lot of money and they spend a lot of time doing it
    • we need to distinguish between fun events and fundraising events. we should be clear about what the goal is.
  • Arthur: want to have a dance party on the same day, can coordinate with Mari
  • Robb: good to have events that are fun - brings new people to omni
  • Arthur: takes a long time to publicize, and sometimes bands can't commit a month in advance.
  • Arthur and Mari arrange to coordianate about fundraising event in December.
  • Mari:

Arthur's events

  • Will coordinate with mari and FNB on 12/12. Wants ot see the space utilized. Doesn't expect more than 500 from this event
  • Thanksgiving event is on Thanksgiving 11/26. Not certain there is consensus in FNB about moving it here yet. usually do it at ashkenaz. WIll have a high quality food from TJ's rockridge. Judith and Joe have been workiing on this mostly so far. Early evening event.
  • 2/13 fundraiser on the calendar. Will discuss at a meeting on Wednesday. Bicicletas por la PAz likely, Carol Denny. Will somehow charge for a meal served 6-7. $15 admission and $10 suggeested donation for the meal.

Robb Production Collective idea

  • Collective that would be available to BL certain aspects of events
  • what does the working group think about how it would like to interact with this collective?
  • No money involved, just way to legitimately funnel money iinto the Omni. Wouldnt pay rent but fiscally sponsored by Omni and all money from charging space users goes to Omni. They would get training and OMni would get consistent event production.
  • laura: What tasks would the collective take on?
  • Robb: what I would like to see is that the collective would take on the care of the commons.
  • Arthur: Not a lot of incentive to take on events if you're doing everything AND cleaning the toilets. The concept of having the productive collective - everyone around wants to help out, so I dont know if we need the additional structure.
  • Max; its hard for peole who are just stepping in to know hat needs speacifically to be done
  • RObb: there are some tasks involed with production that require training so you cant just have any randomvolunteer doiing them.
  • Laura: I think the next step is to make s pecific proposal for being a member collecitve or whatever
  • RObb: there is a broad spectrum of people who are needed for production so it oculd be a way for lots of creative people to become part of a collective. I want to do it reig and its a big deal that's why Ive been going slowly on iit.
  • Arhtur: would it include promotion?
  • Robb: Yes. AND web design, lighting, sound, cleaning/maintenace, setup, and eventually food/catering. I want the OMni to be seen a a cash cow for east bay radical organizations, get people trained to do this for us and other organizaitons
  • Laura: write up a proposal and show it around.
  • Persian Tea House: Saturday night; Ben is supposed to be point person; offering $400; Robb/Andrew/Cere
  • Firehouse Art Collective (people without homes): art show, meal; moved to entrance hall; offering $200-250 for Entrance Hall. Julio
  • Sketch Commedy Troupe: 400 people for Friday and Saturday (conflict with Persian Tea House); offering $500 per night (must be both). If Persian Tea House is not happenning, Laura will offer our space (PP, but would need help). Otherwise, they already have Temescal Arts Center.
