Introductions

Introduce yourself: Name; Preferred Pronoun; Affiliation; any brief announcements; say whether you're a delegate; let us know about any access needs you have†

  • WHY DO WE ASK PRONOUNS? To make space for people who are trans, nonbinary, gender noncomforming or otherwise vulnerable to being misgendered. It's not an invitation to make jokes or trivialize the idea of pronouns. If you are fine with the gender and pronouns society generally assigns to you, please just say what they are without fanfare or embellishment. Conversely, please don't pressure anybody to give their pronouns, as that can harm trans people who are closeted or questioning. The point is to prompt and normalize asking, but not to mandate or enforce. Thank you! <3 Yar

asked to leave

Proposals

To touch on next meeting

  • Membership sponsorship to support guests having keys
    • yar was going to rewrite
  • Member collectives sponsoring events
    • make this a concrete proposal
  • Basement rentals
    • remembering from AB: sewing machines hard to get on coaster. medialab space should ideally be rented for media workshops, classes etc

Preliminary Proposal

Ravers Ambitions

  • Robert: With consensus of sudo room about a year ago, have been putting on workshops primarily for DJs. Have been doing it for awhile and have a lot of support. Lots of people who want to share their skills through workshops and skillshares. RAVE - Radical Audio Visual Experience - different blends of audiovisual events, electronic music, and other cultural activities. Can take the form of festivals, protests, fundraisers. Not a lot of spaces for people to come together - inspoired in large part by hackerspace culture. Providing space and resources for dooacratic learning and collaboration
    • Workshops to garner employment and how to get into the industry. Lots of overlap with creating safe spaces for embracing difference, LGPrBTQ+ communities. Promoting inclusivity and embrace across financial and class identities, to link people up to music and tech workshops.
  • Other aspects of raving culture include art, costumes, crafting, tech, A/V, sound production,
  • Want to build a music rehearsal and sound room - downstairs in basement between LibLens and FYE
  • Bill ourselves as a collaboration -

Discussion

  • Rachel: This is something new?
    • Robert: We're a project right now, doing DJ workshops right now but would like a space to do something more concretely
  • Ken: Timeline? 501c3? How many folks?
    • Have DJ stuff going but would like to put in a request to become a collective. This would be going in direction of 501c3. 6-10 solid people who would do admin stuff - probably 40-60 people interested in events and stuff
      • Ken: They understand the culture here?
        • Decision making would model Sudo Room in terms of members voting/abstaining/discussing but a clear consensus process, which follows Omni
          • Dennis: which space? Middle Room inbetween FYE & LL.
          • Ken: suggestion -- you all should meet w/ FYE & LL to create one basement rule policy for equipment since it seems like a lot of different rules will be confusing for members.
          • Jenny agrees: lets create a general equipment/ system level for tools so more people have access and accountability
