  • (jake is available)

  • les she/they SM
  • Sarah L (Safer DIY) is available for ?s

fire inspection

  • jacqi: it went well this morning. inspector we got was cool & relaxed, walked the building quickly, said "i'm good". pointed to outside fridge outlet missing cover, and CO alarm. we should be marked as "passed" in the system by tomorrow

Helen's update on conflict

  • helen: i'm the conflict steward for habiba's ban. gloria is not willing to engage in mediation. the whole thing has been postponed. i'll try again later.

weapons

  • Proposal: ban weapons from Omni
  • yar: i thought we already did that but would be good to renew. would need to make very clear with our licensed/bonded event security folks. also would like to be able to quote this rule to cops with more confidence. there were cops taking their guns into omni a while back it sucked.
  • Patrik: Just did a search on our wiki - couldn't find anything relevant under "guns" or "weapon"
  • maybe ask other buildings how they word their weapon policy?
  • yar: how about just "no guns at omni"
  • no exceptions for police!
  • event security people usually don't have guns
  • geraldo: some people requested gun training events, but we didn't take them
  • guns or all weapons? knives, machetes?
  • yar: half the shit in sudo could kill someone
  • starter phrasing: "no weapons, including guns"

finance update

  • toast: omni has to start paying property taxes in the next few months, need to negotiate a payment plan to avoid auction. will not get 100% exemption, but bill will be reduced.
  • How much and when? To stop any pending sale by the Tax Collectors Office,

Omni must enter into a pay plan agreement with the Tax Office. Pay plan agreement is 20% payment upfront = 300k*.2 = 60K. Will also need to be current with property taxes - coming April ($40k - see https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DNIZmpwRJ87aZ-_ImjHgH07-TbRfRWfr/edit)

    • Patrik: should be allowable to use GoFundMe funds for this (currently at $50K)
  • SL: the County Assessor can only exempt the county portion of the taxes; it is worth talking to Temescal Telegraph BID re seeing if Omni can be exempt from that tax, which is about $4k for the year? (That is the largest City assessment of the total City portion)
  • Emily: next step is to do research with City/county on what exactly a payment plan would look like.
  • SL: unrelated, also remember to file RF-1 form

DIY money

  • Safer DIY Reimbursement proposal (tabled from last meeting)
  • yar is in favor of promising them $30k to be paid upon refinance
  • PROPOSAL: refund $30K to Safer DIY, to be included in our refinance
  • Sarah's wording: omni agrees to repay Safer DIY spaces $30k of unreimbursed construction expenses, beginning by June 2023, with payment plan details to be negotiated later
    • CONSENSUS: yes (ccl/patrik clp/silvia mop/jacqi LL/anka bogss/geraldo fnb/helen) abstain (none) block (none). PASSED.
  • discussion of whether delegates need to approve paying sarah for more tax-related work.
    • emily: you've already been contracted for this so delegates don't need to approve it again
    • yar: unless it's a wildly different sum of money i think it's fine to just continue

ABK

  • (All Be Known) ABK requesting to be a member collective (email sent out 11/4) from Desiree Lo
  • patrik: is ABK just a single individual? is it just herself or is she forming a larger group?
  • silvia: she'll be having an event at omni soon. it was delayed due to fire inspection. kind of a music/art collective, may grow soon.
  • silvia will follow up with desiree, get some details and figure out next steps, maybe starting with events

crates

  • Crates in entrance hall?
  • Delegates had issues with the white crates ANV was leaving behind in the entrance hall. Now there are even more crates. Does ANV have a plan for when to remove them, or where to store them? Does ANV want to rent additional storage space from Omni?
  • the packing slip on the new colored crates said ANV on them
  • maybe print "no storage ever" all over entrance hall
  • cleanliness committee had a hard time getting accountability for the white crates also
    • Patrik: Default solution per cleanliness committee would be to pay someone to remove the crates, and bill ANV - hopefully they should want to avoid that!
  • Jacqi will try emailing rachel from ANV

Fridge/Freezer

  • emily: we got funding to fix fridge/freezer to help FNB? did that happen?
  • helen: we got a grant to convert the dry storage next to trash room into a walk-in fridge. we never actually had the work done and the grant expired. we didn't use/accept it because we couldn't arrange to have the work done. if we wanted to do it at some point, we could probably get the grant back. but for the moment we let it fall through the cracks.
  • yar: my understading is it was general hesitancy to invest more in the building when we weren't sure we could keep it?
    • helen: yes, that was part of it. and also i thought it should wait until we're ready to redo the basement kitchen.

assessors meeting
