Who volunteers to go check if there's mail for Omni right now? This agenda item is part of the meeting notes template.


CAST recap

  • mostly was Omni giving info to CAST.
  • Pallavi - question is, how much involvement would they have in helping us get a loan? would they cosign? At very least, introduce to lending network. We need some revenue generating models and projections if we are to pursue loans. CAST could help, and then that could help present something to a lender where they feel comfortable they will get money back
  • Patrik - how do they feel about if we go in partnership with CiM?
  • Pallavi - also Peoples Programs offer. And possibility with CAST as property management, if they are willing to take on. Currently how MOU is written, not necessarily a long term partnership
  • Patrik - Ken mentioned asset management, but not necessarily property management. But that is something they have done for other groups. I want to know how they would feel about being a three way group.

discussion about CiM leadership

  • Pallavi - CAST will want BIPOC local to Oakland. If we can find points of harmony. I dont know about ballroom being dance events
  • Patrik - Phillip is booking events now, not just dance.
  • Azadeh - right now are we trying to make a decision?
    • Pallavi - not making decisions without having a community communication. After next week meeting, CAST can look at proposals and can identify which one on paper is more robust, or suited to project.
  • Azadeh - but we can have multiple proposals?
    • Patrik - two proposals, both offering covering loan for part of building ownership, and take over event management.
    • Azadeh - our events would go through them?
  • Azadeh - our team now, theyve had a hard time maintaining events
  • Patrik - right now Philip Bell is leading events
    • Pallavi - It's mostly Dom and Jannette. Silver said Philips hasnt been doing as much

[Phillip was on vacation last week]

  • Pallavi - with Peoples Programs, there was an ask for them to do events here from delegates. We could ask them to fully curate the ballroom.
    • Toan - I thought there was talk about that and support.
  • Pallavi - we need to narrow down our asks for CAST. What were four things they had?
    • Building
    • Infrastructure
    • Governance
    • Operation
  • They touched over these overarching themes. None of these addressed specific, mortgage payment, tax, urgent issues. Thats what we need to zero in on. That's the pressing thing. Will they be involved in property management? Will they be helping us find a third party?
  • Pallavi - they have an established line of trust with lenders.
  • Paige - my question, given how dire financial situation is right now, how much should we be looking outwards still for backup plans, loans etc, vs. doing the re-imagining and visioning that CAST is asking for?
  • Pallavi - they recognize situation is urgent. but because we havent gotten foreclosure notice, they went into more general stuff first. Shreya said we will be get back to us with more clarity. They were asking us amounts for different proposals (PP and CoM),
  • Paige - We also need to update CAST with latest property tax info



conflict report back

  • Paige was going to be conflict steward for Troy - any update?
    • Paige: Troy upset about passive/aggressive notes. Haven't gotten in touch yet
    • Marc: some disruptive behavior from Troy as well.

Access to mail cubbies

  • The Free Store continuously blocks access to mail cubbies.
  • Paige will text Free Store about moving to the other side of entrance hall


Fire Inspection

  • had list of things to correct. Safer DIY was going to update maps, but not done yet
  • Patrik: can we just get the files and do it ourselves?
    • Paige: David says the files were illegible and need to be redone from scratch
  • Paige will contact Safer DIY again.

Insurance

  • From email: "If you would like to finance again this year, I have attached your finance agreement to complete and sign. Please remit Deposit Premium of $7,100.00 made payable to Heffernan Brignole or by ACH at Heffernan Brignole Insurance Services LLC (epaypolicy.com) by Friday, April 26th."
    • Pallavi: should have that available in account.

Mulberry Trust payment

  • Paige emailed Myan. Myan doesnt have info on it

[Update: payment was made late on April 30th. Misunderstanding that we had paid it at beginning of month.]

Officer roles

  • What are the roles responsible for?
    • Secretary - knowing where the documents. writing notes, keeping up with the mail. licensing, due dates for taxes, insurance, logistics. prompt and communicative. Organizer
    • President - "to delegate". making sure everything happens.
      • from internet: may do conflict resolution, fundraising and resource development, task delegation. more public facing. coordination. liaising between board and management of the building.
    • Treasurer - overseeing all things financial. bookkeeper actually does paperwork, treasurer makes sure its done correctly, no embezzling an all that good stuff. checks and balances.
  • Patrik - willing to volunteer for secretary, but im not putting enough efforts into my CCL secretary role
  • Pallavi - healthier if not a delegate
