Approval of spending of Omni funds for non-recurring expenses

Proposal made by juul on March 8th.

Any spending from here on out should have to be approved by the finance committee and in order to get spending approved, an itemized budget will have to be submitted to the finance committee. If someone feels like something definitely would be approved by the committee then they can feel free to spend their own money, have approved afterwards, and then be reimbursed assuming it is actually approved. If someone spends Omni money without approval then they will have to pay the Omni back for that amount unless they can get it approved by the finance committee. The finance committee should not take into account whether or not the money has already been spent in making their decision.

It is unfortunate if this sometimes blocks people from getting stuff done, but several people are very concerned that we are spending money on things other than what was stated in the indiegogo campaign.

Friendly Amendment -

- Include info on how to be reimbursed EASILY - Limit to the amount the finance committee can approve on it's own to 5,000

- - - -

- Matt sez there is a preapproved inventory of stuff that exists that is budgeted for- ask him

Discussion

Meeting-wide discussion of issues, concerns, ideas, etc.

  • Soundproofing - Cere wants to start soundproofing - how should we go about it?
    • DK: THere are 2 kinds
      • 1 between us and neighbors
      • 2 intra building
        • Can't stop stomping
        • Can't shorten the basement
        • disco room double wall
  • Basically we have a long way to go before we know what's what

This Week's Topic

Ideas for Breakout Discussions

  • How do/should we ineract with unwelcome (abusive/hostile/drunk/etc) guests (Especially if you are alone!) and diffuse/solve the situation?
  • OMNI Finances: How can move toward more transparency about how much the Omni costs? And more comfort talking about money within the Omni and its members?
  • Kindness, Forgiveness, Self care, Debt and Jubilee
  • Friendships, Relationships, and Organizing
  • What is your 50 year vision for The Omni? The year is 2064: What is the Omni? Who/What makes up its membership? How has it changed Oakland, the rest of the world, and the word "community"?
